Please Don't Share With Me!

It is so ironic that I started eating healthy and putting my body on the right track to being healthy this week, and then sure enough, I end up with the stomach flu. I know it had to be something I picked up this past weekend at work because I was taking care of a few patients who had the flu (it is running rampant as I am sure you have heard and the hospital even ran out of masks last week because there were so many people on isolation for the flu). Anyways, I caught it. But I guess the good thing is I hopefully wont get it again this season. I did get the flu shot too!

Anyways, school started today, but of course I was home sick in bed. I'd prefer not to pass my germs around. My professors were happy with that too.

So here's what I learned today:

WASH YOUR HANDS!! (I do this like soap is going out of stock.) When I work, I easily wash my hands 200 times. It protects you from germs, and it protects others from getting your germs. Sharing is nice and all, but you can keep your germs.

COVER YOUR MOUTH!! when you cough, sneeze or generally have any type of excretions coming from your body. And don't do it into your hand. Proper etiquette is to cough into your elbow.

STAY HOME! Actually, in Asia, it is rude to go out of your house when you are sick. If you do have to go out, you wear a surgical mask (like the ones we thought they were wearing because of SARS.) It actually was them wearing it to protect other people from getting sick! It is frowned upon if you don't wear a mask.

It would be great if us Americans actually cared enough about other people to protect one another from getting our germs, wouldn't it? But unfortunately, I have been in too many public places where the person in line in front of me is hacking away without covering their mouth. It's gross!

Guess its time to take some vitamins!

Have a healthy day,
xoxo-Meg
